Why a Tile Bag Is Not an Equal Letter Draw
A real bag holds 12 Es and only one Z, so racks drawn from it look very different from equal-odds letters.
The English edition has 100 tiles: 98 letters and 2 blanks. How many of each letter there are follows how often it is used, and points go the other way, so common letters are worth little and rare letters are worth a lot. The tile bag above uses exactly that set. The batch generator below gives every letter the same chance, which is useful for hard anagram practice but is not what a real rack looks like.
The tiles add up to 187 points. Vowels make up 42 of the 100 tiles, so a 7-tile rack has just under 3 vowels on average.
| Points | Letters (count) | Tiles in bag |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Blank ×2 | 2 |
| 1 | E×12, A×9, I×9, O×8, N×6, R×6, T×6, L×4, S×4, U×4 | 68 |
| 2 | D×4, G×3 | 7 |
| 3 | B×2, C×2, M×2, P×2 | 8 |
| 4 | F×2, H×2, V×2, W×2, Y×2 | 10 |
| 5 | K×1 | 1 |
| 8 | J×1, X×1 | 2 |
| 10 | Q×1, Z×1 | 2 |

What to Expect on an Opening Rack
Some quick odds for your first seven tiles from a full bag:

- At least one blank: About 13.6% of racks, roughly one in seven.
- Vowels: About 2.9 on average. Racks with 0 or 6+ vowels are rare but do happen.

- Rack balance
- Bingo bonus
- Hypergeometric odds
Rack Drills That Build Word-Finding Speed
Club players practise by drawing a rack and seeing how many words they can find in a set time. The rack score and vowel count in the tool help you judge a rack quickly: fewer than 2 vowels or more than 4 usually means it is time to swap tiles.
- Draw a rack and find the highest-scoring word in 2 minutes.
- Draw a rack and list every word of 2 or 3 letters it contains.
- Keep drawing without tipping tiles back to see how the bag empties over a game.
- Use the batch generator for hard racks full of rare letters.

Scrabble Letter Generator Questions
How many tiles are in the bag?
One hundred: 98 letter tiles and 2 blanks, matching the standard English edition.
Are the letter point values correct?
Yes. The tool uses the standard English values, from 1 point for common letters like E and S up to 10 points for Q and Z. Blanks score 0.
What happens when the bag runs low?
If fewer than 7 tiles are left, the rack takes whatever remains. Press New bag to refill all 100 tiles.
What is the blank tile?
The blank, shown as ?, can stand for any letter but scores 0 points. There are two in the bag.
Why do I get more Es than Zs?
The bag holds 12 Es and 1 Z, so E is 12 times more likely to be drawn. Use the equal-odds generator below if you want every letter to have the same chance.
Is this an official Scrabble product?
No. Scrabble is a trademark of Hasbro in the US and Canada and of Mattel elsewhere. This is an independent tile-drawing tool for practice.
